I like to figure out different ways to enjoy both my breakfast and my tea in the morning! A lot of time I do not have enough time to sit down and eat breakfast, instead opting for a grab-and-go option. I also usually brew my tea and take it in a travel mug. So I was looking at recipes on Pinterest, and I came across a couple of overnight oats recipes and it got me thinking about combining overnight oats and tea. There are rarely any new ideas so of course, I was not the only one who thought this. So I decided to combine a
Here is my recipe:
- 1 cups old fashioned rolled oats
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 cup Almond Milk
- 1 Vanilla Chai Tea bag
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- optional: almonds, berries, honey, coconut
Warm up the Almond Milk and steep the Vanilla Chai Tea for 3-5 minutes before removing teabag. In a mason jar, combine oats, chia seeds, and brown sugar. Pour in milk tea, and then seal the mason jar. Put the jar and then place in the fridge overnight. Enjoy in the morning!
My Experience:
Sometimes, I do things and just really do not think of the consequences. I tried to warm up my almond milk in the microwave and after brewing for a few minutes, realized that the milk was not warm enough. So teabag and all, I decided to put the almond milk back in the microwave. Needless to say, the milk overflowed and I had a mess to clean up.
In the morning, I went to try the oats and then remembered that cold oats just were not my thing. So I added some honey and heated it up just a bit (35 seconds in the microwave). I feel like that kind of defeats the purpose of overnight oats. I think if you make this and add honey, a little brown sugar, and maybe some apples this recipe would be made (my mom thinks raisins). I can definitely taste the chai in the oats, but it is a more subtle flavor. The whole recipe is very subtlely sweet, so if you like foods that are
This is extremely easy to make. One, you are making it the night before so that saves more time in the morning. Two, the tea I used has caffeine in it, so you can get an extra boost from your breakfast. You also can make different kinds of tea infused overnight oats! Use earl grey for a smooth taste or mint for a refreshing boost in the morning (I would use water instead of almond milk though).
Well, that’s it folks! A recipe that combines tea and overnight oats. Happy brewing!
