Tea Goddess is a Canadian Tea Company based in Toronto that specializes in natural and organic tea blends. Health and wellness is an extremely large focus for the company. I decided to change up my review process a little bit, changing up the pricing and packaging section and adding a sourcing section. They sent me three of their blends: Energize Me Tea, Beautify Me Tea, and Skinny Me Detox Tea. Here are my thoughts:
Beautify Me Tea: I was excited when I saw lavender and coconut in the ingredient list! This tea has different ingredients than other hair, skin, and nails blends that I had tried, so I was interested in seeing if I would enjoy consuming it more. I would recommend shaking the bag first as many ingredients settled to the bottom and the lighter orange pieces settled to the top. Oh my goodness, when I scooped out the leaves I noticed that the chamomile flowers were gigantic! I tasted the peppermint mildly with the chamomile at the end of each sip. The tea was quite smooth and had an extremely creamy feeling. There were hints of slight sweetness in the tea which I could only imagine was the orange peel. I drank this mid-afternoon, but this would be enjoyable to drink before bed or when I need to relax during the day. I do not think that I would say that I am more or less beautiful after drinking this tea, but it was relaxing.
Ingredients: Organic Egyptian Chamomile, Organic Peppermint, Organic Carob Roasted, Organic Orange Peel, Orange Pieces, Organic Lavender, Organic Coconut
Energize Me Tea: I need to start this off by stating that the leaves of this tea are by far the prettiest I have ever seen. There are fairly large pieces of oranges that stuck out in the leaves, which just made me want to stare at the leaves for a bit. The aroma of the tea was both spicy and floral, with a sweet undertone. Once I went to tasting this tea, I could immediately taste the sweetness which was most likely due to the orange pieces and licorice root. The more I tasted the tea, the more I noticed a little subtle spiciness creep up into my palate. The tea was quite calming to me while having a subtle energizing factor. It kind of deeply rooted me, and allowed me to breathe and relax. I was not sure what to expect from this tea, but I was quite happy with my experience.
Ingredients: Organic Green Tea, Organic Jasmine Blossoms, Organic Ginger, Organic Cinnamon, Organic Cardamom, Organic Orange Pieces, Organic Juniper Berries, Organic Licorice Root, Organic Safflower
Skinny Me Detox Tea: The aroma of this tea reminded me of bread, but as I observed it more, I could sense the fennel and anise. I obviously cannot report on any weight loss benefits that this tea claims to have, but I can report on the taste of this tea. It had a yeasty feeling with some very organic tasting notes. The anise gave the tea a slight licorice taste, and my mom stated that she could really only smell and taste the anise and fennel. I wish there was a sweet element to this tea, such as the orange pieces in the other two teas. I think that would have tied the tea in a bit better and gone down more smoothly, and I would be more inclined to drink this tea for a detox. The ingredients seem similar to other detox teas that I have seen in the market, so just in a glace, they seem like they could benefit the consumer if used properly. Honestly, if I was using this for a detox, I would drink it. But for reasons beyond that, possibly not. I was a little disappointed in the naming convention of this tea, Skinny Me Detox Tea. I wish that it blended a bit more with the other teas and went with a Detox Me Tea or something similar, as the name promises results that some people might not achieve from this tea.
Ingredients: Organic Anise, Organic Burdock, Organic Cinnamon, Organic Dandelion Leaf, Organic Fennel, Organic Flaxseed, Organic Ginger, Organic Milk Thistle, Organic Nettle, Organic Psyllium Husk, Organic Red Clover, Organic Senna Pods, Organic Slippery Elm, Organic Marshmallow Root & Leaf
Pricing: The price for each tea was $10 CAD for 50 grams, $20 CAD for 100 grams, and $38 CAD for 250 grams of loose leaf. I think it is a decent price for the tea, but I think a slightly lower price would make a bit more sense for this tea and the quantity that is received (especially with those larger orange pieces).
Packaging: All three teas came in white tea packages that did really well at containing the tea’s aroma. They were standard tea packaging so there is not much extra to be said about them. For the EnergizeMe Tea, I was a bit frustrated when trying to measure out the tea leaves in this packaging, due to the larger orange peel pieces and the inability to navigate around them to get to the smaller pieces due to the packaging. I ended up taking the leaves out to photograph them, but it was not very convenient. However, because the packaging seems airtight,
Sourcing Information: There is no direct information about what areas the green tea and other ingredients are sourced from, but Tea Goddess does state that their teas are 100% natural and are certified organic, free of artificial flavors, gluten, nuts, and GMOs. They also pride themselves on being fair trade, choosing to form relationships with tea partners and organic tea farms around the world.
I hope you enjoyed this review, and the new *permanent* addition of a sourcing section. I think it is extremely important to highlight when companies are excelling at disclosing their sourcing information and to highlight when the information might be missing!
