Matcha Monday with Enso Matcha

Enso Matcha is a UK-based matcha company that focuses on wellbeing and inspiring others to live a happy and healthy life. Matcha helps people’s mood, energy, and ability to focus, and can lead to many more benefits for the consumer. They specialize in artisanal Japanese matcha all coming from Uji, Kyoto, and offer Ceremonial grade and everyday matcha. They reached out to me to try their Ceremonial Grade Matcha; here are my thoughts:

Ceremonial Grade Matcha: The first thought that came to mind when making this matcha, was the beautiful green color. The aroma was creamy, sweet, and mild. After a little investigating, it reminded me a bit of fresh-cut grass. It frothed easily and created a beautiful pale green. The taste of the matcha was almost a bit nutty with a mild vegetal bite at the end. It really warmed my tongue and I could feel it on the roof of my mouth. There was no bitterness to this tea and I enjoyed its mild energy that coursed through me when I drank it. I actually drank three cups of this matcha in the same day, and let me tell you, I felt FOCUSED.

At first, I used too much powder in correlation with too little water. It was a lot of a harsher vegetal, grassy bite to the matcha with mild astringency. The aroma also had a bite to it as well, I knew I immediately messed up. The next time I made sure to do the proper measurements and it became a lot milder and settling.

Price: This Ceremonial Grade Matcha is priced at £16.99 ($22.60 USD) which is right at that sweet pricing spot for ceremonial grade.

Packaging: The matcha was packaged in a tin and also in a sealed package within the tin. It tastes very fresh and did not change much from its time in my fridge, meaning it was well preserved from its month-long time in my fridge.

Sourcing: All matcha from Enso is sourced from Uji, Kyoto in Japan. Their ceremonial grade uses the youngest leaves from each harvest and are produced in small batches to ensure quality.

How often do you consume matcha? I will say, the more I work from home, the higher my matcha consumption is. I have been drinking it to help me focus when I find I am lacking. Let me know in the comments! Happy Brewing!
