Starting Iced Tea Season with Sweet Melon Tea

Starting Iced Tea Season with Sweet Melon Tea

It is officially getting warm in Michigan, and to celebrate – I have broken out my tea pitcher and am starting to cold-brew. My family normally goes through quite a bit of iced tea, so I was very excited when FAVA Tea sent me some of their teas to try iced. I am kicking off the season with their Sweet Melon Herbal Tea, which is seasonal to the summer season.

Sweet Melon Herbal Tea

I brewed this tea overnight in my pitcher, using all of the tea in the sample provided. I tried to not add too much water as to not water down the brew, which I think was a good move. The color of this tea was a bright pink color, absolutely stunning. It is a bit harder to narrow down the aroma of an iced tea, in my opinion, but the tea gave off some sweet, stuble fruity notes. It had somewhat of a creamy undertone to it as well.

The idea of a melon tea is very interesting, and I feel like I haven’t seen it too much on the market before. But I have to say, FAVA Tea nailed it on the head. It tastes like a mix of honeydew (which is one of my favorites), watermelon notes (surprisingly not overwhelming), and cantaloupe. The watermelon-like notes came from the overall subtleness of the blend and the watery element to it, but this could be a bit of user error on my end. The tea is quite light, subtle, and sweet – with an overall refreshing feeling. I could see myself hanging on my back porch drinking this (totally what I was doing during this review) or by the pool.

I gave my brother some tea as well to get his thoughts. He at first wondered if there was hibiscus in the tea due to a bit of a tart note in the tea. He then said he noticed almost apricot notes in there as well, which I thought was interesting. It is funny how different taste buds can have different experiences with the tea.

Ingredients: Apple pieces, carrot flakes, honeydew melon cubes, flavoring, beetroot, freeze-dried strawberry slices.

Pricing: This tea is priced at $4.25 per ounce of loose leaf tea.

Packaging: Fava recently changed to a plastic sample packaging that does not allow for resealing. However, for their samples, they are the perfect size for iced tea and that problem is well eliminated.

Sourcing: This tea is fruit-based and not actually tea-based, so no sourcing information is really required in my eyes.

Are you starting to brew some more cold brews? If so, let me know what you are drinking! Happy Brewing!
